It’s the end of the year, and Teacher Appreciation Week is May 4 through May 8, 2026, which means all the blog posts about what to get teachers for gifts are popping up all over the place. However, most of them are full of knick-knacks and things that I, as a soon-to-be teacher, and my teacher friends really don’t want. So here are a few things the teachers in your life really want for gifts.

Drawings and Notes from our Students

I think this is number one for many teachers. We love getting handwritten thank-you notes from our kids and parents. Just knowing we are appreciated and loved means a lot. So have the kids write a thank-you note. It’s great practice for them, and teachers love it.

However, if you must get something tangible, here are a few other suggestions.

Books for Our Classroom Libraries

I, for one, will never turn down books for my classroom library. I love BOOKS, the more books the merrier. Please give me all the books. Got books you no longer need, I’ll take them. Seriously, a nice new book for the classroom library to remember your child in years to come is a great gift for teachers.

Something from our Wish List

Most teachers you know have a wishlist on Amazon or Target. These are filled with things they would really like for their classrooms. Supplies, fun activities, books, etc. Skip buying another water bottle and hand sanitizer, and go to her wishlist to make her day! Here’s mine for my future classroom if anyone wants to help a future teacher out!

Donate to their Donors Choose

If your child’s teacher has a Donors Choose project, make a donation in your child’s name. This is a great way to help your child’s teacher and future students!

Gift Cards

Not just to anywhere, but to Walmart, Target, Office Depot, Staples, Amazon, etc. Places where your child’s teacher can shop back-to-school sales and get supplies for her classroom.

You could also get them a gift card to a local boutique, Fleurty Girl, Purple Tiger, Home Malone, so they could get some cute classroom decor, like a door hanger or a cute t-shirt.

Teacher friends, chime in, what else do you want?
