It’s Mother’s Day weekend, so things are a little quiet, but there is still a lot to do. You can go see Wicked at the Lafitte Greenway. There is music in the park in both Kenner and Westwego, and Gretna is having their big May arts sale! Also, Moms can bowl free at Surge on Sunday. Here are all the fun things to do this weekend in Jefferson Parish with Kids, May 8-10, 2016. Happy Mother’s Day!

Rosedale Storytime: 10:30 – 11:30 am for ages 0-5 at the Rosedale Library.

Community Garden Work Hour: 11 am – NOON. Everyone is invited to help work in the first-ever community garden at the Terrytown Library.

NORDC Movies in the Park: Bring blankets and chairs to Lafitte Greenway Gathering Field (2200 Lafitte Street, New Orleans) in New Orleans to watch Wicked For Good. Kids’ activities from 4-6:30 pm, with the movie starting at 7 pm.

West Jeff Family Fest: 5 – 11 pm. Live music, food, and fun at West Jeff Hospital (920 Ave B., Marrero)

Music at the Park: 6:30 – 9:30 pm. Music at Heritage Park in Kenner’s Rivertown every Friday in May, weather permitting. Bring your blankets and chairs and enjoy the music! No outside food or drink and no pets permitted. This week’s entertainment is Wayne James and Pontna.

Friday Night Concert: 6:30 – 9:30 pm. Listen to Rock Block at the Westwego Farmers Market, 484 Sala Ave.

German Coast Farmers Market: 8 am – NOON. St. Charles Parish East Bank Regional Library. 198. W. Campus Street, Destrhan.

Gretna Maifest: 8:30 am – 3:30 pm. Arts, plants, crafts, and more for sale in Downtown Gretna. Huey P Long and Third Street.

Creative Clubhouse: 9 am – NOON. Create art with weekly themes. This week’s theme is “Tissue Paper Flower Collages”. FREE, 2533 Columbus Street, New Orleans.

LEGO Club: 10 –11 am. Ages 5-10 can build LEGO creations at the East Bank Regional Library. Younger siblings welcome!

Video Game Hour: 10 – 11 am. Ages 6-18 can play video games at the River Ridge Library. Registration Required.

Morning Mah-jong: 10 am – 12 pm. Ages 12 and up can learn and play Mah-jong at a slower pace, in a relaxing environment at the Rosedale Library.

Make A Mother’s Day Mug: 10 am – 12 pm. Mother’s Day mug-making workshop for ages 12 and up at the East Bank Regional Library. Registration required.

LEGO Club: 10:30 – 11:30 am. Ages 4+ can build LEGO creations at the Harahan Library.

Story with Craft: 10:30 – 11:30 am. Storytime and craft for ages 3-7 at the Avondale Library.

Go Fishing, Canoeing, or Kayaking: 10 am – 2 pm. You can sign out equipment for a self-guided tour or take lessons from staff and volunteers at Joe Brown Park (5601 Read Blvd). Ages 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Ages 18 and under must have a signed waiver from a parent or guardian, and ages 16 and up need a freshwater fishing license.

YALA Art’s Play: 10:30 – 11 am. Art-based activities that promote early learning: this week’s theme is “Mirror Mirror” (social emotional skills) at the Newcomb Art Museum of Tulane. Register here.

Avery’s Harbor Fest 2025: 11 am – 9 pm. Music, games, food, and fun for the whole family benefitting St. Michael Special School.

Tales From the Trees: 11 am. Chats, lectures, and stories celebrating nature from the stars to the trees, at the Audubon Nature Center.

Story with Craft: 11 am – NOON. Storytime and craft for ages 3-7 at the Gretna Library.

Reading to Rabbits: 2 – 3 pm. Ages 5 and up with a parent can learn about bunnies and practice reading skills by reading to them at the Avondale Library.

Contemporary Arts Center: Free Admission for Louisiana Residents with a valid ID.

Crescent City Farmers Market: 8 am – NOON. City Putt, New Orleans City Park.

Harahan Farmers Market: 9 am – 1 pm. 10th Street, Harahan.

Yoga with Goats: 10 – 11 am. Everyone age 9 and up can go try yoga with goats at Cajun Coral Farm, 416 Heifer Run, Pearl River. Bring a blanket and a water bottle; you can bring a mat, but one of the goats thinks it’s a snack.

Mom + 3 Bowl Free: 11 am – 4 pm. Mom and three guests can bowl for free at Surge Entertainment (shoe rental not included). Two extra guests can be included for $5 each, and shoe rental is $4 per person.

Afternoon Craft: All Day. Ages 3 and up can create a Flower Pot at the West Bank Regional Library, while supplies last.

Reading to Rover: 1 – 2 pm. Beginning and reluctant readers can read aloud to therapy dogs at the West Bank Regional Library.

VCPORA 28th Annual Mother’s Day Concert and Picnic: 4 – 7 pm. Free jazz concert in Cabrini Park in the French Quarter. Open to the public. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs, and picnic baskets. Please leave pets at home.
