It’s the first weekend of summer, and it’s a busy one! There is so much happening, it’s hard to choose one thing. The tall ships are downtown all weekend and offering FREE ship tours. While you are down there, stop by the Cablido on Saturday for a free family day. You can also head down to Lafitte for the Jean Lafitte Seafood Festival for some delicious seafood and carnival rides. Sail 250: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Celebrate the 250th birthday of the United States by visiting the tall ships from around the world. Public ship tours daily from 8 am – 5 pm. Fireworks along the riverfront Saturday at 9 pm.

Community Garden Work Hour: 11 am – NOON. Everyone is invited to help work in the first-ever community garden at the Terrytown Library.

Germany’s Great Bavarian Circus: Friday 4:30 and 7:30 pm; Saturday and Sunday 1:30, 4:30, and 7:30 pm. See high-flying artists, clowns, and more in the Oakwood Shopping Center parking lot. Purchase tickets.

Jean Lafitte Seafood Festival: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at the Jean Lafitte Auditorium and Fair Grounds. Food, live music, carnival rides, and more. Admission is $10.

Memorial Baptist VBS: Friday 6 – 8:30 pm, Saturday 10 am – 3 pm, and Sunday 9 am – 12 pm. Interactive Bible study, crafts, games, kid-friendly lunch or dinner, more at Memorial Baptist Church. Registration required.

Music at the Park: 6:30 – 9:30 pm. Music at Heritage Park in Kenner’s Rivertown every Friday in May, weather permitting. Bring your blankets and chairs and enjoy the music! No outside food or drink and no pets permitted. This week’s entertainment is Ryan Foret.

Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella: Friday and Saturday 7:30 pm; Sunday 2 pm. A funnier, bolder, musical version of your favorite fairy tale at Rivertown Theaters. Tickets start at $52.19.

Do Portugal Circus: Friday 7:30 pm; Saturday 2 pm, 5 pm, and 8 pm; Sunday 2 and 5 pm. 5700 Read Blvd, New Orleans. Highlights include the human cannonball, frying trapeze, and more. Tickets are $20 for children ages 2-12, $30 for adults, $60 for ringside, and $100 for a family pack.

Sail 250 Family Sports Day: 9 am – 5 pm. World Cup-style tournament between naval crews of the US and nations around the globe, plus hands-on STEM activities, snowballs, and more.

Creative Clubhouse: 9 am – NOON. Create art with weekly themes. This week’s theme is “Rain Sticks”. FREE, 2533 Columbus Street, New Orleans.

LPO Symphony Book Fair: Saturday 9 am – 6 pm; Sunday 9 am – 4 pm. Thousands of used books for sale to support the Louisiana Philharmonic Symphony at the UNO Lakefront Arena. $20 entry fee on Saturday from 9 am – 12 pm and FREE the rest of the time.

Cabildo Family Day: 10 am. Free walking tour, hands-on crafts, musical demonstrations, and more. Registration required.

Go Fishing, Canoeing, or Kayaking: 10 am – 2 pm. You can sign out equipment for a self-guided tour or take lessons from staff and volunteers at Joe Brown Park (5601 Read Blvd). Ages 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Ages 18 and under must have a signed waiver from a parent or guardian, and ages 16 and up need a freshwater fishing license.

Saturday Craft: 10 – 10:30 am. Children can come make a craft in the Children’s Activity Room at the East Bank Regional Library. First-come, first-served.

Morning Mah-Jong: 10 am – NOON. Relaxed learning experience for ages 12 and up at the Rosedale Library.

Storytime at the WWII Museum: 10 – 10:20 am. Families can listen to Gertie the Darling Duck of WWII and paint bird eggs with encouraging messages.
